NFL Players And Money
One of many questions folks always ask me about being an NFL player is, "what's it like making so much money at such a younger age?"
I've to say that it may be very troublesome to go from being young and having no cash to being young and a millionaire because you do not know the way to be financially responsible. It's just like successful the lottery, and as you know from reading about lottery winners, most lottery winners go broke within 10 years after winning the lottery. Well, it is not that a lot different with professional sports players. The reason for this is most professional athletes, and lottery winners, had been never taught cash management skills. Going from being broke one day to being a millionaire the following day is a huge change in your life, largely because once you have money, everybody needs you to offer it to them, and more often than not you do.
I came from a single family dwelling without a father, which is something many professional NFL players have in common. I'm also African American and my family didn't have a lot of money, which can also be quite common amongst NFL players. Because of this, I was by no means taught tips on how to handle money responsibly and plan for my future. I went from being broke one day to being drafted into the NFL and becoming a millionaire.
A huge problem with being young and having some huge cash is the pressure by just about eachbody including fellow players to spend a lot of money very quickly. If you find yourself rich, eachbody needs your money, particularly your loved ones and friends. My mother, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, etc. all needed to borrow money from me. And of course I gave it to them. Then, you may have girlfriends and wives who need you to purchase them a lot of costly presents like vehicles, jewelry and clothes because you are rich and they want to show off to their friends. You also have charities, traders, and businesspeople all asking on your cash--and you end up giving it to them.
However probably the worst of all is the opposite players because when it comes to cash it is the blind leading the blind. All of us spend our money as if it will by no means run out because we're uneducated in financial responsibility. For example, for you to be cool and respected by the other players, you must keep up with them. So, if one player buys a new SUV, you need to purchase one too. I imply, you can't be an NFL player and drive a normal car like a Honda Civic. You must drive an expensive Hummer, Cadillac Escapade, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc.
You also should have an enormous costly house. All the opposite players do and for those who just live in a median house, they look down at you. So, we lay our a fortune shopping for big houses for ourselves and for our dad and mom that we don't need. And naturally there may be the jewelry. We spend a lot money on jewelry it is insane. It isn'thing for a player to spend $one hundred,000 a year or more buying jewelry, and that is just for us. That doesn't embody all the jewelry we purchase for our household, wives, and girlfriends. It is all extremely irresponsible. However, when you might have so many people placing pressure on you day by day to buy things and keep up with the opposite NFL players, it becomes a lot easier to say yes than to say no, at the same time as you're watching all your money disappear.
Another problem is as a rich NFL player, you're anticipated to flip the bill for everything. Everytime you go out to restaurant, you're the one who pays for eachbody. And, while you go out with different players or your buddies, it is always to a flowery club the place we go to the VIP section and spend hundreds of dollars on fancy champagne and drinks--for eachbody. I have known players who've spent over $25,000 in a single evening at a club. After which they go and do it again and again to allow them to be the "big man."
One other problem NFL players have is girls who are after us for our money and our status. And many of those women are gold diggers. If we were not rich athletes these stunning girls would probably not look twice at us. But now that we are rich and well known, women chase us constantly. This virtually always leads to us marrying a lady we shouldn't marry after which getting divorced after a couple of years and losing a large percentage of our money in the divorce. I made this mistake myself and it cost me dearly and still prices me.
